Ballarat is just 75 minutes drive from Melbourne on the Western Freeway and even closer from Melbourne and Avalon Airports - both are only about an hour away. If you are coming from Melbourne Airport, Ballarat Airport Shuttlebus runs daily services.

The Western, Midland, Glenelg and Sunraysia Highways, radiate from Ballarat and connect it to Melbourne, Adelaide, Geelong and Portland, as well as other regional centres like Bendigo and Mildura.

You can also travel by train from regional centres. With the current schedule now incorporating the new Fast Train, you can be get to Ballarat by rail from Melbourne in just over an hour. Arriving this way is impressive when the train pulls into Ballarat's beautiful heritage station - one of the most striking in the state. A short stroll along Lydiard Street puts you right in the middle of the city and a stone's throw from several Visitor Information Centres.
